【灌籃高手不是籃球,是青春的生命 / Slam Dunk is not just basketball, it's the life of youth.】
After watching the movie version of Slam Dunk, the first thing I wanted to do was pay tribute to Inoue Takehiko-sensei. So I immediately bought the necessary equipment and started drawing. My biggest motivation was to honor that important period of my life, my youth that I can never go back to. Slam Dunk was a big part of that period, as it was for many sixth graders. Inoue-sensei didn't draw basketball, he drew youth – a certain attitude and memories that come with it. So I picked up my pencil, representing a part of my youth – sketching, to evoke one of the most important movies of that period for me.
【三井,無疑是永不放棄的最佳代表 / Mitsui is undoubtedly the best representative of never giving up.】
If you were Mitsui, would you dare to shed tears in front of everyone and say the hardest thing to say: "Coach, I want to play basketball so much!" and show the softest and weakest side of you in front of everyone after bashing them down? Everyone may get lost for a while, but the key is not to stay lost and to always persevere. Mitsui is one of the characters I admire the most because he represents the deepest value of a prodigal son's return.
【用最簡的工具去做最單純的事 / Do the simplest things with the simplest tools】
With just a sheet of paper, a pen, and an eraser, one can begin. Freeing oneself from the constraints of modern computer drawing, the goal is to use the simplest tools to do the simplest things, allowing oneself to fully experience how the most primitive version of oneself can release onto the paper stroke by stroke, dot by dot. It turns out that another parallel world can exist, right here on this A4 sketch paper.
【這只是開始,還會繼續 / This is just the beginning, it will continue】
This series is about what I said earlier, "What if I drew it myself?!" How would I reinterpret the classics and imagine the feelings the author had when they were drawing it? Through this series, I hope to show that perhaps there are many different possibilities for classics, and there is always a slight chance to explore and create anew in the face of them.
